Our dog has been diabetic for the past 3 years and is doing great. Everyone in the family know how to give her the shots. We are careful on what we feed her and make sure she gets lots of walks. Its important to know a diabetic dog can still have a very healthy and long life. It requires a little more care on the owners part, but its so worth it! I just love seeing how happy my dog is.
Our dog was just diagnost with diabetis last friday. Today we spent the day going back and forth to the vet to check his blood and working at getting the correct dose of insulin. Tommorrow, we go back in the morning and hopefully his blood work will be where it needs to be and I learn how to give the shots. Winston is 10 years old and hopefully with a little care, he will still have many more happy years with us.
My 10 yr. old Mini Schnauzer, Mason, was just diagnosed with Diabetes. I am floored and afraid of giving the insulin shots. My husband is doing it for now and I have done it 4 times but I can't seem to get the hang of it and am afrraid I will hurt him. I hope I get over this. He also takes meds for high blood pressure and arthritis. Everything hit at once. I am ordering the cookies for him and am looking around for Vetsulin at a more reasonable price than our Vet charges. I would appreciate any suggestions. Thank you. Maggie
My 11 year old Terrier, Putter was just diagnosed this week. I found that PetMeds sell Vetsulin for $33.99 a bottle. That is a lot cheeper than our vet (at over $58.00 a bottle). I now have to convince the vet to let us order from them. My dog is doing very well. I know that there will be more vet checkups, but the insulin dosage seems to be ok for now. The shots are a breeze, my dog doesn't even notice it. He lays there and recieves them as if he knew that he has to have them to feel better. I dearly love my little dog, and will do whatever it takes for him to be around as long as we are blessed to have him. I hope this helps Marge.
I have a golden who was diagnosed with Diabetes. Buy your vetsulin on line... much cheaper than at the vets... giving shot is not so bad...kario syrup 2 tbs in mouth works great for a low glucose episode. Keep some kario syrup in glove compartment and any where where you might be traveling in case of an emergency. kario syrup on dog biscuits for a long walk. My dog loves these biscuits and it provides for a nice treat for my little sweetie
